The annual Service Design Global Conference (SDGC), organised by the Service Design Network (SDN), celebrates its 19th edition in 2026. This year, the conference will take place in Wiesbaden, Frankfurt RheinMain, Germany, and is organised together with the SDN Germany Chapter in cooperation with World Design Capital 2026.

World Design Capital® is an initiative of the World Design Organization. Every two years, the title is awarded to a city or region that demonstrates how design can drive economic, social, cultural, and environmental transformation. In 2026, Frankfurt RheinMain will become an international stage for design as the designated World Design Capital, placing the region at the centre of global conversations about the future of cities, systems, and societies.

Hosting SDGC 2026 within this wider World Design Capital programme creates a powerful platform for exchange, positioning service design as a key contributor to shaping resilient, inclusive, and future-oriented communities.

Why Wiesbaden?

Wiesbaden as a Premier European Destination for a Diverse and Inspiring Experience

The capital of the state of Hesse, Wiesbaden is one of Germany’s most historic cities and has long been known as a centre of wellbeing, culture, and exchange. In the 19th century, it was one of Europe’s most celebrated spa towns, attracting visitors from across the continent. Its 26 natural hot springs continue to supply the city’s thermal baths today, preserving a tradition of restoration and reflection that still defines Wiesbaden’s character.

Wiesbaden is located in the heart of the Rhine-Main metropolitan region and close to Frankfurt Am Main, and combines historical richness with contemporary European dynamism. The city is renowned for its well preserved pre-war architecture - Grand façades, elegant boulevards, and landmark buildings such as the Kurhaus create a distinctive atmosphere that is both stately and welcoming.

The Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe’s largest international hubs, is located at just 30 minutes from Wiesbaden and easily accessible for attendees travelling from across Europe and beyond. The wider Rhine-Main region is home to global corporations, research institutions, public innovation bodies, and a thriving startup ecosystem, making it an ideal setting for forward-thinking conversations about service design’s global impact.

Wiesbaden is also in the heart of Germany’s wine growing region, called the Rheingau. Vineyards stretch along the Rhine River, producing celebrated Riesling and Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) wines. There are many wine bars in Wiesbaden which provide an atmospheric backdrop for sampling the local Riesling and Burgundy wines, as well as an opportunity for socialising and connection beyond the conference programme.

With its blend of heritage, accessibility, and European cosmopolitanism, Wiesbaden offers more than a conference location. It provides a setting where diverse perspectives meet and where the global service design community can gather, reflect, and shape the future together.
