The Power of Conflict: Become a Better (Public) Designer by Navigating Conflicts Successfully
As (public) designers, we are often expected to drive change in organisations that are designed for stability. This workshop explores how conflict arises in change processes and how it can be used as a source of progress. Through practical exercises, participants will discover their own conflict style, experiment with alternative approaches, and learn strategies for navigating resistance and disagreement. Drawing on real examples from the public sector, we will explore conflict situations that are familiar across sectors and apply new tools to participants’ own challenges. Participants will leave with practical techniques to navigate conflict more confidently and increase their impact as change-makers.

Simone Carrier is a service designer passionate about the public sector. For over 15 years, she has worked with government organizations in Germany and abroad, focusing on digital services and organizational transformation. Her key projects include establishing Cologne’s Innovation Office, scaling digital services in Baden-Württemberg, and building service design capacities in the UAE. She co-founded the Public Service Lab and the Good Administration Award. Currently, Simone leads Brandenburg’s digital administration team, helping municipalities implement digital services.
